Björn Ståbi is a professional fiddler who, thanks to his versatility and sensitive ear, has often worked with musicians in other genres, including everything from troubadours to folk and rock musicians, as well as folk musicians from other countries. He has never, however, renounced this genuine feeling for folk music and his own style. He hails from Orsa in Dalarna, where he came in contact early on with songs and melodies through his father. Björn Ståbi reckons Orsa fiddler Goessa Anders Andersson, whose archaic and characteristic playing clearly reverberates through Björn's fiddle, as his foremost teacher.
Björn Ståbi has been active-both in Sweden and abroad-as a soloist, duet player, dance fiddler and course leader, and also as an influential producer and archivist of folk music traditions. Apart from his playing he is also a visual artist. He has been awarded the Zorn Gold Medal.
